How to analyze a supplier price list for Amazon US

A low supplier price is the beginning of the analysis. Establish what one sellable unit contains before calculating whether it can make money.

Keep the source and create a working copy

Download our public synthetic Sunrise Wholesale CSV from the resources page. It is a demonstration of extraction, with invented product names and barcodes. It contains 335 rows, including 39 marked as quarantined by the extraction. Those are observed file counts, not Amazon sales outcomes.

Keep the source row number in your working sheet. Preserve UPC/EAN values as text so spreadsheet software does not strip zeros or rewrite long identifiers. Keep supplier availability separate from whether Amazon allows you to sell.

Turn a case price into a unit price

The sample row SW-1001 has a $16.91 case price and six units. Its unit cost is $16.91 ÷ 6 = $2.818333…; the extraction records $2.8183. Keep precision in the calculation and round only the displayed amount. Do not divide again if the supplier's price already applies to one unit.

Now compare that unit with the Amazon listing. Brand, variant, size and pack count must agree. A valid check digit only checks arithmetic: it does not prove that a barcode belongs to a particular product or that the match is correct.

Resolve eligibility before treating a row as buyable

  • Find the exact ASIN and condition in your seller account.
  • Record whether selling is allowed, an application is available, or requirements remain unresolved.
  • Read the application before buying inventory for its invoice.
  • Keep ambiguous matches and missing eligibility out of the ready-to-order selection.

FlipIQ can help perform account checks after you connect Amazon. You still need to review mismatches and the actual application requirements.

Calculate a conservative example

Use a hypothetical $8 selling price for that $2.8183 unit. Assume a 15% referral fee, $3.50 FBA fee, $0.50 prep and $0.60 inbound. Profit is 8 − 1.20 − 3.50 − 0.50 − 0.60 − 2.8183 = −$0.62. These are teaching assumptions, not fees or prices observed for the synthetic item.

The unit is inexpensive and still loses money under this scenario. Storage, placement, returns, advertising and other omitted costs would need their own allowance. Use the cost worksheet to record them instead of interpreting a blank as free.

Return a reviewable selection

Export the rows you want to investigate with their source row, matched listing, unit basis, costs, eligibility, reason and review date. A short list without explanations is hard to audit later. Recheck volatile prices and account eligibility before the actual order.

For an initial test, start with a few rows and manually reconcile them. Scale the file only once the mapping is correct. The public catalog walkthrough shows how to preserve exclusions and reproduce a selection without claiming that it is profitable inventory.
